Good Afternoon, Parents!

Here is this week’s edition of the weekly newsletter. Please mark your calendar for these special events!!

Wednesday, February 11, 2015

It was nice to be back in Chapel again this morning. Mrs. Hanchek will no longer be able to help with music this year due to medical issues, and we will miss her dearly. However, we were blessed to have the youth praise team from Living Hope join us today to lead us in song. It was so nice to have the group here and we look forward to having them lead us the rest of the school year.

Pastor Chris Philips shared our Bible lesson from I Corinthians 13:1-8, 13. This is a chapter in the Bible that a lot of people refer to as the “love” chapter, and is often used in the context of a wedding ceremony. Pastor Philips pointed out that this chapter is sandwiched between two passages of scripture that deal with spiritual gifts. With this in mind, our lesson focused on how we are using our God given gifts. Are we using our gifts for selfish gain? Do we serve others because we “have to,” or do we serve because we love our fellow man? He talked about how ineffective our work becomes if we are not serving with a heart that has a love for others. Are there areas in my service that need more love? What is one thing I can do to prove my love for others? Both are good questions to ask ourselves from time to time to make certain we are serving for God’s glory and not our own.

Special points of interest:
FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 13TH – HALF DAY OF SCHOOL & COMMUNITY SERVICE PROJECT DAY
Remember! This Friday is a half-day of school for students. We will dismiss at 12:30 p.m. after lunch and recess. Bus service will be provided from CCS to the bus lane at the high school at 12:30 p.m. This is also a Community Service Project day.

“Volunteerism is an important part of our faith (Philippians 2:3-4), which is why we have made community service an important part of CCS. The current 2014-15 school year has four half days scheduled for service projects, and this week we are having our year’s third project on Friday. This is a school day on our academic calendar, and students are required to be present.” – Mr. Lempa

Students, staff and volunteers will spend the morning making toys/games for children living in group homes in Mexico. Mrs. Baerlocher will take these items with her on her mission trip this summer. We need volunteers to come in and help with this portion of our project. Please let the office know if you are able to help. In addition, we will be working on some community building among our student body. Mr. Hanusa will lead the students in some fun team building events in an effort to bring more unity to our school.

MONDAY, FEBRUARY 16TH – 6:30 p.m. – PARENT COMMITTEE MEETING
The next Parent Committee meeting is scheduled for next Monday night. Join other CCS parents to share ideas, get the latest updates on events that directly impact you, your student and the school, and let your voice be heard on important decisions made by your Parent Committee.

MONDAY, FEBRUARY 16TH – PROGRESS REPORTS GO HOME
Watch your student’s classroom take home folders next week. Progress Reports will be sent home on Monday.

SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 21st 4:30 p.m. – HAIRY & COMPANY @ Walnut Hill Bible Church, Baraboo
Community Christian School is pleased to partner with Walnut Hill Bible Church in bringing Hairy & Company to Baraboo. A longtime Outreach Ministry of Camp Forest Springs in Westboro, WI, John & Diane Windle have been entertaining audiences for decades with their puppet Hairy & Company. “When Hairy & Company takes the stage, people of all ages laugh and learn. But behind each performance is a serious message; leaving the audience refreshed and challenged.”

Bring the family and join us for a Family Fun Night! Admission is FREE!
A spaghetti dinner following the show is also available. A suggested donation of $10/family will benefit CCS.

Volunteers are needed to help serve the spaghetti dinner, as well as clean up after the event. We encourage student participation, and ask that they wear uniforms if they will be helping serve or clear tables during the event. Please let the office know if you and/or your student will be able to help.
THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 26TH – 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. – OPEN HOUSE & GAME NIGHT
We are opening our doors on Thursday, February 26th for the public to come in and take a tour of the school, meet some CCS families and staff, and to learn about how Classical Christian Education is having a positive impact in the lives of our students. We are also inviting all CCS families to come and enjoy a fun evening playing board games and getting to know each other better. This FREE event is open to the public and all are welcome to join us. Let’s show our community what a fun time we have at CCS!

SATURDAY, MARCH 7TH – 6:00 p.m. – ? BOOT STOMPIN’ GALA for EDUCATION
Each year CCS hosts a “Gala for Education” fundraising event. The event includes a full meal, live and silent auctions, raffle drawings, and lots of fun! All proceeds from this event benefit CCS. In order to make this event a success, we need your help…

First…last week we sent home an order form for Gala tickets. Please consider attending this event and getting your reduced priced tickets before they are all sold out! Just return the completed form to the school office, it’s that simple!

Second, invite your friends! This Gala is not just for CCS parents. Although we encourage as many CCS parents to attend that can, we also want friends and family to join us for this fun evening. Tickets can be purchased online through our website, or by calling the school office.

Third, we are still looking for items to be auctioned off during our silent auction. If you have an item you wish to donate, please contact the school office and we will let the Gala committee know of your donation. We are also looking for any homemade canned goods for our “Grandma’s Country Cupboard” (to be auctioned at the Gala). Soups, jellies, jams, veggies, etc. are all welcome items. These can be dropped off in the school office.

CLASSROOM CHALLENGE
Have you been collecting Box Tops? Have you turned them into your student’s classroom yet? Our Box Tops Classroom Challenge ends this Friday, February 13th and all labels need to be turned in that morning. The classroom that collects the most Box Tops (based on percentages) will enjoy an extra recess!!

KWIK TRIP AND CULVER’S SCRIP CARDS
These cards are still a great and easy way to help support CCS. Cards are available through the school office, Elite Catering (608-355-2458), and Travis Anderson at Cell-Plus (608-356-4000).

We are in for a blast of cold, wintry air the rest of this week and on into the weekend. Stay warm and have a wonderful Valentine’s Day!

All for God’s glory!
